Our Story
The Heart Behind Barmy Badger Backpackers
Barmy Badger Backpackers, or ‘the Badger' as our regulars call us, began in December 1997. Liz and Ken, our founders, were once backpackers themselves, tramping across the globe in their youth.
Their travels inspired them to launch a central London hostel designed specifically for like-minded travellers who value sociable, clean and budget-friendly accommodation. Their vision was to create not just a place to sleep, but a home from home friendly hostel that feels like a real community.
Over the years, we've grown with the help of wonderful guests, warm-hearted staff, and even a hostel dog called Frankie, who many say is our real mascot! If you're looking for a homely hostel with chilled out vibes, look no further.

Our hostel is designed for comfort, connection, and budget convenience. We offer a range of cosy rooms, from single and double private rooms to sociable mixed dorms, perfect for backpacker accommodation or longer stays.
The kitchen is well-equipped for your culinary expertise, while the spacious living area is the social hub for guests to swap stories, chill out, or plan their day in London. Outdoors, our inviting garden and decking space is a rare find in central London hostels, providing the perfect setting for a summer BBQ or an evening under the fairy lights.
Frankie, the hostel dog, is often on hand for a cuddle or a walk, making our place as homely as possible.
